Why would anyone allow children to live in these conditions though
Sasuke living at the compound, post massacre, basically no wonder why he built up so much hate and sadness inside him and why he couldn’t let go, probably thinking about this 24/7
Naruto rejected by everyone, Konoha’s ignorant citizens don’t know more than to reject an innocent child and that makes me so sad still.
Why did Hiruzen allow such a thing, Konoha is fucked up.
I’ve been complaining about this for years.
What bothers me is that Konoha — the citizens of Konoha — never really acknowledged their mistake and their behaviour. Naruto forgave them, Sasuke turned rogue, but the people never stepped up and said ‘what we did was wrong and we know it’. There’s been no real instance in the manga (that I can recall) where the people of Konoha vow to change this kind of behaviour.
This level of neglect is tantamount to abuse on a terrifying scale and it’s never really been properly addressed.
Nearly 700 chapters and it’s never been properly addressed I CAN’T.
I wrote a while meta on this once and it still bothers to me today. How Naruto turned out as well as he did is amazing. (Shounen magic strikes again).
Poor Sauce though. He never stood a chance. :(
Basically, Kishi does what I hate reading about in Naruto fics… glorifying (or rather not addressing at all) abuse… Naruto turned it into a strength to believe in himself, for Sasuke it was a plot device to fuck him up and get him to leave the village. I wish they’ll both say “fuck you” to the council after this and go their own way (together). An orphanage. Konoha needs an orphanage under Naruto’s personal care. Just please, please give me this… Well I can dream.
Hm. What I see is abuse that reflects society today. True, people are standing up for abuse in our society, but honestly, there are still people who well never see help come.
As for naruto and sasuke, in the recent chapter, 695, it finally clicked to me that throughout the neglect and abuse naruto and sasuke went through, naruto learned to forgive. He holds on to hope, hope for a better future, like the previous hokages. However, sasuke doesn’t see the hope. He wants to kill the kages and naruto and destroy whoever has hope. He’s given up on believing in the future. And it’s sad. But sasuke symbolizes all those who’ve suffered, given up, and committed suicide, in my opinion. Although he’s idea is gruesome and unbearable, it’s a reasonable idea. It is a reasonable idea.
That’s why they both understand why they take the position they’ve taken.
What always struck me as odd in the Naruto manga is that…… despite living in a fundamentally violent society, with orphan rates probably being pretty high overall, Konoha has NO decent infrastructure in place to take care of orphans. From what I can tell, clans are responsible of taking care of their own and if you don’t have a clan? Well, I guess Konoha can give you some money and find you an apartment, but good luck taking care of yourself.
Considering Itachi was an accomplished and Konoha-paid killer by the tender age of 9, I presume Konoha has no legal definition of “child” and “adult”. A child becomes an adult as soon as they’re proficient enough at killing to go be useful out in the field.
So leaving Sasuke to live by himself in a murder scene? Sure! Why not! It’s his clan property after all, and he’s big enough to know how to put on shoes. He’ll be fiiiine~
